DIY Fawn Makeup / Costume

On Saturday, Lincoln and I were invited to go to a Halloween party. Yes, it’s very much the middle of April and not at all Halloween – but how many times are we actually going to get to go to a Halloween party in the USA? So, it was 8pm the night of the party and we have zero costume parts at home and very little funds to go and source a costume from somewhere – so we needed to get a little creative. We went to Walmart and bought a few supplies. I decided to go as a fawn, inspiration coming from our recent viewing of Bambi, and Lincoln went as an American.

This is how I created my look, on a very tight budget, with very little resources.

I made my ears using a headband, a piece of brown felt and some cardboard. I bought the headband ($3 for a pack of 3) and felt ($0.29) from Walmart. I cut ear shapes out the cardboard and felt and used a hot glue gun to attach the ears to the headband. I wore this with a brown singlet ($3), black jeans and brown sandals.

For my face, I started off using my L’Oreal Paris True Match foundation in Golden Ivory and Covergirl concealer in Light/Pale to make a blank face.

I then used Elf mineral foundation in Tan,Wet n Wild Eyeshadow in Sugar ($0.96) and a brown eyeshadow from this EyeQuad palette (from Kmart a couple of years ago for a costume, I think it was about $3) to create shading around my face.

For my eye area I used my L’Oreal Base Magique Primer, a copper coloured eye shadow and a gold glitter Wet n Wild Eyeshadow in Brass ($0.96).

For my eyes I used Maybelline HyperSharp Wing eyeliner to do an exaggerated wing on my top lid and also to do my bottom line – but below my lash line. On my bottom water line I used a white eyeliner to make my eyes look bigger. I also filled in my brows wtih Rimmel brow pencil in 002 Hazel & put Maybelline Lash Sensational on my top lashes.

For the white spots around my face I used my white eyeliner (I’ve had this forever and have no idea what the brand is). For the nose I used my black eyeliner.

For my lips I used a Wet n Wild Khol Eyeliner in Simma Brown Now! for my upper lip and Burt’s Bees lipstick in Nile Nude my bottom lip.

I then teased my hair a little bit and put some hairspray in.

As always, thanks for reading!
